Cape Town is the Beginning

After a few hour delay in our second flight leg, we arrived in Cape Town in good spirits, with all of our luggage.  We all agreed that it was amazing that 33 pounds isn't much, and yet it is a lot to carry through the airport.  The distances from a modern jet gateway, through customs and so forth is quite a hike and these bags don't have wheels because they have to be crushable.

Our driver met us very efficiently and 30 minutes later we were at our hotel in the waterfront area.  The Victoria and Alfred Hotel.  Quite nice.  An hour later, after 4 very satisfying showers, we were ready to explore Cape Town.  Here is the view from the front of our hotel, once as nature intended it and once as tourism has modified things.

Probably 15 years ago, when Diane and I still lived in Chicago, there was a summer where Chicago had painted cows all over town.  I think they raised money for a cause and it was a new idea that captured the city's imagination.  This year, Cape Town is doing the same thing, but with rhinos.

That sort of puts a wrap on Monday.  We'll be up for tour #1 tomorrow.  I hope you can join us.
